Almost always, insulation isn't designed to be visually pleasing, it's designed to be the in between layer.

Hidden between a face fabric and a lining, its function happens somewhere inside the garment. You experience the warmth, but rarely see the material responsible for it.

PrimaLoft® Active Evolve turns that relationship inside out. Literally.

Its distinctive open structure is designed to provide warmth while allowing air and moisture to move through the material during activity. But what initially interested us was just as much its physical character. Active Evolve looks like insulation. There is no attempt to disguise its open construction, loft or depth. What would traditionally exist inside a garment becomes the surface itself, allowing the functional structure of the material to define how the piece looks, feels and performs.

LETTING THE MATERIAL LEAD

We’ve increasingly been interested in what happens when you remove unnecessary complexity from a garment.

Rather than selecting a fabric to fit a predetermined design, Active Evolve asks for a different approach. Its texture, stretch, breathability and warmth become part of the silhouette and construction from the beginning. Not quite a conventional fleece. Not a traditional insulated jacket. Not simply a base layer. It can operate within a layering system or exist independently, changing its role depending on conditions, environment and output.

That versatility is important to us. Instead of creating another highly specific layer, the material allows the garment to become useful across a much wider part of the day.

DESIGNED TO BE SEEN

There is something interesting about taking a material normally associated with the inside of technical clothing and making it the most visible part.

Performance garments are often defined by their outer surfaces: smooth nylons, protective laminates, tightly woven fabrics and weatherproof membranes.

Active Evolve exposes a different part of that system. The open structure creates space for air to move through the garment while its loft provides warmth. Visually, those same characteristics create a highly distinctive surface, meaning the construction responsible for the performance also becomes the design language.
